The Regina Pats are making a change in nets.
The team traded 20-year-old goalie Daniel Wapple to the Vancouver Giants late Thursday afternoon for a fourth-round draft pick in the 2017 WHL Bantam Draft.
Wapple was traded to the Pats ahead of the 2014 trade deadline from the Medicine Hat Tigers. Since then, Wapple has played in 84 games in Regina posting a .907 save percentage and a 3.01 goals against average.
“Daniel’s given us real solid goaltending which you have to have no matter where you’re at as a team,” said Pats Head Coach and GM John Paddock in a news release.
“It’s just one of those things, when we look to the future, we have to do. He’s a good goalie and he’ll give good goaltending to Vancouver.”
With Wapple now in Vancouver, the Pats have recalled 16-year-old goalie Jordan Hollett from the Ridge Meadow Flames of the PJHL. So far this year, Hollett has posted a .923 save percentage and 3.29 goals against average in eight games.
Hollett was selected 13th overall in the first round of the 2014 Bantam Draft by the Pats.
Paddock will meet with the media on Friday morning to discuss the deal.
The Pats are in Swift Current on Friday night before hosting the Victoria Royals on Saturday.
