Jamie Nye: OK, it’s hard not to get over it

I enjoyed Canada’s first go around in men’s hockey at the Olympics with Rene Bourque and Wojtek Wolski scoring a pair and seeing Ben Scrivens nearly get a shutout.

Last month, I wrote it’s time to get over the fact NHLers aren’t there, but even I can’t stop thinking of the miss that the IOC and the NHL can jointly be blamed for not doing their best to be in the Olympics.

Think of the line combinations we’re missing: Connor McDavid centreing a line with Nathan MacKinnon and Sean Monahan, Crosby between Stamkos and Tavares.

The U.S. could have Auston Matthews paired with Patrick Kane and Johnny Gaudreau.

Russia with Nikita Kucherov, Alexander Ovechkin and Evgeni Malkin.

OK enough.

I’ll try not to think about what I’m missing at the Olympics and try to enjoy what we currently have.

And it is definitely a motivated group of comeback players who are looking for their golden moment.

One I hope we see achieved in the next 10 days, even if it’s captain Chris Kelly leading the charge for Canada and not Sidney Crosby.
