For people who are looking to get out of the house this weekend have several options to choose from in Regina.
Regina Pats Homecoming Weekend starts Friday with a 1:30 p.m. game of shinny with Pats alumni players facing off against military veterans.
There are still tickets available for the NHL Alumni Classic on Saturday.
Roger’s Hometown Hockey is hosting several fan events on Saturday at City Square Plaza.
There’s a free Lego Leagues video game event at Cineplex Theatre in Normanview on Saturday afternoon.
The Royal Saskatchewan Museum is showing family-friendly movies for the next two Sundays and will feature a School’s Out lineup of family movies throughout the week of February break. Tickets are $3.
For those looking for fun free activities on Family Day, Waskimo Winter Festival starts at noon Monday on Wascana Lake.
“It’ll be great on the lake, we’re going to have horse-drawn sleigh rides, we’ve got snow cricket, we’ve got fat bike races and the famous winter Hole-lympics,” explained Waskimo President Jim Aho.
Unfortunately, Waskimo had to cancel the sled dog races because there isn’t enough snowpack on the lake for the dogs to run safely. Aho said Waskimo organizers will hopefully be looking to bring back the sled dogs next year.
The pancake breakfast on Saturday was also cancelled.
Waskimo will also feature an indoor kids carnival at Conexus Arts Centre once again, but this year there will be no entrance fee.
For those wishing to park at Conexus Arts Centre to be close to the events, there is a parking fee of $10. People are encouraged to park elsewhere and walk or take a shuttle from the University of Regina residence parking lots.
Anyone who prefers the great outdoors to a crowd can also ice fish without a license because it is free fishing weekend for Saskatchewan.
Civic offices and the landfill will be closed Monday, but garbage and recycling will be picked up normally. Regina transit will be running buses on a Sunday schedule and Paratransit will be operating on a holiday schedule from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Jack Hamilton Arena is open for public skating from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday. Northwest Leisure Centre and Sandra Schmirler Leisure Centre pools will be open from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. while the Regina Sportsplex, including the Fieldhouse and Lawson Aquatic Centre, will be open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
