Everyone escaped injury after a train derailed just outside of Melfort, Sask., Friday morning.
Staff Sgt. Monty Lecomte with Melfort RCMP said they got a call about a derailment just south of Highway 41 and 41-A at around 2:34 a.m.
“CN is still on scene there. There were no injuries or anything like that,” he said.
Canadian National Rail said 10 grain cars were involved in the train derailment southwest of Melfort.
Darlene Bannister drove past the scene at around 8 a.m. when CN first started cleaning up the mess.
“I saw at least three cars that were completely over there was a lot of emergency vehicles around them so it was tough to see how many were actually down,” Bannister said.
No properties were damaged and no hazardous materials were spilt as a result of the derailment RCMP said, adding because there were no injuries or property damage reported, they’ve turned everything over to CN Rail.
Melfort is 175 kilometres northeast of Saskatoon.
