Some people are thrilled with a very warm weekend forecast across southern Saskatchewan, while others are disappointed with the lack of snow
The forecast calls for temperatures 10 degrees above normal heading into the weekend. It should be great for the Santa Claus parade which starts Sunday at 1 p.m. in Regina.
Beau and Murphy don’t really care about the cold or snow as long as they can chase a ball at the dog park in Regina. But their two-legged family members are very happy to enjoy the warm weather instead of freezing.
“It’s awesome. I can’t believe there’s no snow on the ground yet,” commented Jessica Knaus, who came with her mom and sister and their dogs. “It’s kind of weird. I kind of like the snow so I feel like we’re missing out.”
Jenelle Knaus says it’s good weather for the dog park because the ground is still frozen so it’s not muddy.
“Well Murphy, my dog, in particular he’s indifferent. He likes the snow, he likes the warm, he likes whatever as long as he gets to go outside and play,” she said. “But it’s a lot nicer for his owner when it’s warm like this.”
Katherine Storey feels the same way about the weather.
“Overjoyed, absolutely fabulous. It’s been a gift. So much less of winter, I love it,” she said.
Her dog likes the snow, but she says that’s too bad because she would much rather be outside in this kind of weather.
“It’s marvelous, can’t ask for anything better,” said Tina Legresley, with her dog Karma.
She also says Karma likes snow, but she would prefer to only have to deal with snow at Christmas.
While many people bask in the warm weather free of snow, some people are eager to see a blanket of snow on the ground.
Darcy Kunz is the manager at Open Road Recreation in Regina which sells snowmobiles.
“We have had some snow in and around the area, so it got some guys excited,” he said.
Kunz says many customers who come in are wishing for a white Christmas.
“Definitely, they want snow and we want snow,” he said.
“The forecast right now doesn’t look very good for snow, but it’s Saskatchewan, so that could change at any time,” he said.
Despite the brown landscape, he says sales are still pretty good because many avid snowmobilers are willing to travel to northern Saskatchewan or the mountains in search of snow.
