No other NBA owner has the profile of Mark Cuban, the Shark Tank star who owns the Dallas Mavericks and just got fined $600,000 for speaking the truth.
Cuban feuds regularly with U.S. President Donald Trump, so he usually makes some good points. But Cuban is in trouble for a couple of reasons.
Following an explosive Sports Illustrated story, the Mavericks are investigating their own front-office working environment that allowed sexual misconduct and harassment among its employees. And while being interviewed by former NBA superstar Julius Erving, Cuban said he told his players “losing is our best option.” Cuban got in trouble last year for admitting his team tanked late in the season to improve its position in the NBA draft.
Such ongoing admissions are going to keep costing Cuban. He can afford it. And it will keep him in the limelight for when he’s thinking about challenging Trump in the 2020 presidential race.
