It appears the number of drunk drivers is continuing to drop in Saskatchewan, but there’s still work to be done.
According to the latest SGI numbers, there were 221 impaired driving offences in January – down from 276 in the same month last year, and also an improvement from the 238 in December 2017.
The January 2018 offences include 153 charges where blood alcohol concentration exceeded .08, impaired driving or refusing a breath test, and 68 roadside suspensions.
Other statistics from the January spotlight include:
- 500 distracted driving offences (416 of those for cellphone use)
- 312 offences related to seatbelts or car seats
- 4,612 speeding/aggressive driving offences
SGI once again encouraged people to plan a safe ride home after drinking, which includes asking a sober friend to drive, or taking bus, taxi or safe ride service.
