Regina Saskatchewan Party MLA Warren Steinley is seeking a federal Conservative Party nomination.
He confirmed on Thursday he wants to run against NDP Member of Parliament Erin Weir in next year’s federal election.
In the last vote, the Regina – Lewvan riding was a hotly contested seat with Weir winning by only 143 votes.
Steinley is the second government MLA to seek a Tory seat.
Saskatoon’s Corey Tocher stepped aside from his role as Speaker at the beginning of the year to seek the nomination in the Saskatoon-University riding for that city.
Both Steinley and Tocher will remain MLAs in the Saskatchewan legislature for now.
