While the snow is causing havoc for drivers, skiers are excited by the freshly fallen moisture.
The season has been underwhelming for skiers in Regina, with only a few of the trails being open throughout winter.
But after getting over 25 centimetres — or 10 inches — over a few days, skiers will be able to enjoy the winter a little bit longer.
“Snow is always good if you’re a skier and this means there will be skiing for at least a couple more weeks now,” said Dale Hjertaas, president of the Regina Ski Club.
He said the snow comes at a perfect time because the cross-country club is having a wind-up on the White Butte trails next Sunday.
“It had looked like we might have to go for a walk,” Hjertaas said.
He said the hope for every year is to be able to ski until the second or third week of March.
The temperature in March is also more agreeable for skiers.
“Instead of dealing with temperatures below -20 C as we were for a good part of February, it’s more likely to be in the -5 or -10 range which is pretty nice to be out skiing when it’s like that.”
Hjertaas added it’s not just skiing that’s going to benefit, as the snow will allow him to bring out his snowshoes for the first time this winter.
