Every single highway out of Saskatoon was listed as not recommended for travel by the province’s highway hotline Tuesday evening.
Those poor road conditions were the likely cause of a fatal crash on Highway 14, just west of Saskatoon.
RCMP said a pickup truck turned onto the highway from a grid road and into the path of a semi just after 6:30 p.m. A passenger of the pickup truck was killed, while the driver and another passenger received medical treatment.
Icy sections, snow pack, loose snow, drifting snow, swirling snow, and reduced visibility were reported in the area at the time. See the Highway Hotline for the latest conditions.
Alcohol is not considered a factor in the crash.
A day of snowfall also led to poor driving conditions inside the city. Between 6 a.m. and 4 p.m., Saskatoon police received reports of 27 crashes. Nobody involved was seriously injured.
