A 19-year-old man allegedly involved in a kidnapping and sexual assault case will undergo a psychiatric assessment.
Kohl Elder is being sent to North Battleford for the assessment. It should be complete by his next court appearance at Regina Provincial Court on Dec. 22.
According to a news release by the Regina Police Service, the incident happened in the evening of Oct. 13 and stretched into the morning hours of Oct. 14. Elder allegedly met a 17-year-old girl in a parking lot in the Glencairn neighborhood to sell her a cell phone. That is when she was threatened with a knife, driven outside the city, and sexually assaulted. Then, the victim was forced into the trunk of the vehicle and driven back into Regina. She was able to escape when the vehicle was stopped at a red light.
Elder is facing a number of charges including attempted murder, kidnapping, armed robbery, and sexual assault with a weapon.
