That’s the last time I say something nice about Jordan Eberle, the little jerk!
If you’re not on Twitter, I apologize for this. But the other day I re-Tweeted a story about Eberle returning to Edmonton for the first time since being traded from the Oilers to the New York Islanders. I praised Eberle’s humility as the reason why he’s my favourite NHL player.
Eberle responded with this Tweet: “Nothing to do with growing up five houses down the street hey?”
As I pictured Jordan smirking like he used to during our shinny games years ago, suddenly my timeline flooded with people liking and retweeting our banter. Mixed in were personal stories and autograph requests. One woman said she named her daughter “Eberle.” Until then, I had never really pondered how overwhelming social media can be for pro athletes.
I should have responded with something snarky, like, “Was that you in those street-hockey games?” Instead, I told him I was proud of him. The little jerk!
