The 2018 Tim Hortons Brier comes to an end on Sunday, and so does the first year of the new format changes.
Some players, like Brad Gushue, have been vocal in their dislike for the format, but for fans, it appears it’s not quite as black and white.
The changes mean the tournament moved from 12 teams in round robin play, to 16 teams, including a wild-card team, in two separate pools.
On Thursday the teams were whittled down to a Championship pool, before going to the page playoffs and then finals on the weekend.
Many fans at the Brandt Centre who were asked about the new format on Friday morning said they didn’t really have an opinion on it one way or the other.
One woman said she liked it, “They come here to play, and before there were always those few teams that, they were finished before it began kind of.”
While one man said he’s not for the changes, “I like to see the curling at a high calibre, and you find about three or four teams, they’re just not making the grade at all.”
