The lack of snow so far this winter doesn’t mean Regina’s snow removal crews are sitting around doing nothing.
The city’s Norman Kyle maintains they are busy with other work.
“Pothole patching with cold mix, they can still do landscaping, they got clean up at the yard with all the surplus material that comes off the construction sites.”
There is also the job of training new employees.
“It gives us a little more time to train them and get them familiar with the equipment,” Kyle said. “We’ll send them out at night on the equipment to get used to being on the roads and in traffic.”
The winter road crews begin work Nov. 1. The wages comes out of the largely untouched winter road budget.
The money for the ongoing work being done by them is paid for from the roadways and transportation budget.
