Two people trying to go ice fishing on Last Mountain Lake Tuesday proved the ice isn’t yet thick enough to do so.
RCMP were called after a truck went through the ice north of Collingwood Estates. Mounties learned that the driver and passenger drove onto the ice, parked and walked out further to fish. When they walked back, they began driving off the ice and the truck broke through.
Both people escaped. The driver’s shoulder was hurt when the passenger pulled the driver from the truck.
RCMP say the truck is now embedded in the ice.
Fire and police departments have been warning people that due to the warm weather, ice is thin throughout the province.
A release from the RCMP points out that a fisherman died on Last Mountain Lake a few years ago after a side-by-side quad went through the ice. The release asks all people to use common sense on frozen water, and only venture out onto the surface at their own risk.
