Anything that reduces the number of video reviews in professional sports is a good idea.

With that said, give the CFL a checkmark for recommending that coaches can no longer challenge — via video review — penalties for illegal contact on eligible receivers.

CFL offences were making sure their receivers collided with a defensive player every play — and that specific penalty was the one most coaches sought on their so-called “fishing expeditions” because there was always the possibility of spotting an infraction.

Not only do most of the other proposed rules involve safety issues, but there’s also a proposal which will allow quarterbacks to make a forward pass as long as they’re touching the line of scrimmage. And one more suggests a video review should check whenever a team may have scored a touchdown. Wait a minute… won’t that cause more video reviews?
