Regina couple has ‘peace of mind’ after receiving new roof

A Queen City couple, who’ve fallen on hard times, is getting a helping hand from the Regina Trades and Skills Centre (RTSC).

Twenty years ago, Dan Snowden was hurt in a motorcycle crash, leaving his wife, Kelly, as their sole financial provider.

When they bought their north Regina home a decade ago, they knew they’d one day need to fix their roof, but never had enough saved up to do it.

After sharing their story with the Regina Trades and Skills Centre a few weeks ago, the Snowdens were told they were the recipients of a new roofing system.

“Because we’ve had to save up for it, this means my emergency fund can actually be an emergency fund,” said Kelly. “I’ll actually have a little peace of mind that if the water heater goes, we’ll be okay.”

“It feels pretty awesome giving back to the community in a good way,” said residential roofing student Catlin Goodwill. “For me, it’s the first roofing job I’ve done myself and it’s been quite the experience.”

This is the third time Regina Trades and Skills Centre has teamed up with local business to help families in need.
