The Sedin twins are calling it a career and while I’ve been urging the Canucks to trade them when reality hits it will be strange to see a Canucks roster without them included.
It’s been since that memorable 1999 draft when then-GM Brian Burke wheeled and dealed his way to getting Atlanta to agree not to draft one of the twins, while he sat back with the second and third overall picks to take the twins.
They started slow, not strong enough to stay on the puck in the bruising dead puck era of the NHL. Then they matured, got stronger and you couldn’t get the puck from them in their prime.
While they never won the Stanley Cup, one win shy in 2011, the Sedins are being debated as Hockey Hall of Famers.
But with two Art Ross Trophies split between them – a Hart Trophy for Henrik Sedin, the Ted Lindsay Award for Daniel – combined with over 1,000 points each, I don’t see how you can deny the twins should be in the hall. And like everything else, they should enter together.
