Two Regina men are facing charges for weapons and stolen property after running from police twice on Monday night and early Tuesday morning.
Regina police officers were responding to an unrelated call around 9:20 p.m. when they spotted a vehicle driving at high speeds ahead of them. Police chased the vehicle after it ran a red light but ended the pursuit. Officers seized the vehicle after finding it abandoned a short time later.
At 4:10 a.m. on Tuesday, police attempted to stop another vehicle while looking for suspects in the first chase. The suspects drove away again and dumped the vehicle in a back yard nearby. A search of the vehicle revealed stolen property, a weapon and some marijuana.
The canine unit tracked the suspects from the vehicle and one dog apprehended a man police believe is the driver, while other officers caught up to a second man.
Jarrett Riley Markel, 23, is facing charges for evading police, driving while impaired, and refusing to provide a breath sample. He was taken to the hospital and treated after being taken down by a canine officer.
Markel and 22-year-old Albert Martin are both charged with possession of stolen property under $5,000, mischief under $5,000, possession of a weapon and possession of break-in instruments. Martin is also charged with possession of marijuana.
Both men are due in provincial court on Tuesday at 2 p.m.
