Shots were fired as RCMP arrested two people in connection to a stolen Regina taxi-cab near North Battleford Saturday.
Maidstone RCMP first received a tip about the black Dodge Caravan taxi around 11:30 a.m., following a theft from a Lashburn gas station.
Mounties eventually tracked the cab down and pursued it eastbound on Highway 16 with the help of North Battleford RCMP.
When the taxi stopped off Highway 16, west of Delmas, “a firearm was discharged from the van,” Mounties wrote in a news release. “This resulted in an RCMP member discharging their firearm.”
An RCMP cruiser then struck the taxi, causing it to become stuck in the ditch. That’s when “a firearm was pointed towards members and an RCMP member discharged their firearm,” the news release said.
The RCMP’s canine unit helped to arrest a man and a woman at the scene.
The woman suffered minor injuries in the arrest and received medical treatment.
No RCMP officers were injured in the incident.
Two suspects, a 30-year-old from Melville and a 19-year-old from Elk Point, Alberta are both facing charges of assault on a police officer, firing a gun with intent, flight from police, theft and possession of stolen property.
On May 3, RCMP said the 19-year-old man is also facing an attempted murder charge.
They appeared in North Battleford Provincial Court on Monday.
