Council retroactively slashed $1.33 million in rent owed by the Roughriders.
The developer of Capital Pointe has filed an appeal against the city’s order to fill the hole at the corner of Albert Street and Victoria Avenue.
On Wednesday the City of Regina issued a statement confirming the appeal on the order to fill the hole.
After a foundation permit expired in March, the City of Regina issued an order to the developers to show meaningful work on the site or fill the hole, which has been described by one city councillor as an eyesore in the heart of the downtown.
The city issued the order to comply on April 3 and the deadline to appeal was Wednesday.
“The City was notified April 18, 2018 by the Ministry of Government Relations that an appeal was filed. The appeal is related to the order to comply for 1971 Albert Street issued on April 3, 2018 to Westgate Properties Ltd.,” Louise Folk Director Development Services for the City of Regina said in an emailed statement.
The city added it will not provide any further comment while the legal action is underway.
Fortress Real Developments is the lead developer on the project for Westgate Properties and sent the following statement by email to 980 CJME.
“Westgate Properties, the owner of the project, filed an appeal on April 17, 2018 regarding the order from the city of Regina to fill in the work currently completed at the Capital Pointe development. The appeal was filed in advance of the deadline and the team will continue to work towards a resolution with the city which will allow this project to move forward towards completion.”
The Ontario offices of Fortress Real Developments were reportedly raided by the RCMP white collar crime unit on Friday as part of a syndicated mortgage fraud investigation.
