Mark Messier is her distant cousin, but this Sask. hockey product is carving her own path.
The SJHL and 22Fresh have partnered up to continue to raise funds to help players and families affected by the Humboldt Broncos bus crash.
A semi collided with the bus carrying the team, killing 16 and sending others to hospital. Some remain in critical condition.
While a GoFundMe page raised over $15 million, it closed just before midnight Wednesday evening.
For those still wanting to help the league and the victims, an official t-shirt is being released with proceeds going to the SJHL Assistance Program.
“We wanted to help in any way we could,” 22Fresh owner Kip Simon told the 980 CJME Morning Show. “We have 10 years of experience in producing, designing and distributing apparel so if that’s the help that was needed, we were more than happy to put that right in front of us and get going.”
This isn’t the first time the clothing brand has helped out a local cause, producing the plaid shirts for Tanner Kaufmann — a man killed by an impaired driver.
“It’s something that we thrive on and thoroughly enjoy even in the toughest situations.”
Other t-shirts have been circulating online as well from a wide variety of outlets. Simon says they believe many are trying to help, there have been reports some of the profits for certain ones haven’t been going to donations.
Simon said they are working directly with the league and Federated Co-op to ensure all proceeds to go back to the assistance program.
The t-shirts were made available Thursday and thousands are expected to be sold.
