There are two great playoff series coming up and NHL purists are mad.
It’s not that they don’t want the Washington Capitals to play the Pittsburgh Penguins, or the Nashville Predators to play the Winnipeg Jets.
The purists simply believe those matchups should come later in the playoffs, not in the second round.
Nashville and Winnipeg placed first and second overall in the Western Conference. It’s the series everyone wants to see because in their four regular-season games, they tallied 34 goals and made fans recall high-scoring games of decades ago.
Sure, it’s a shame one of those teams will be eliminated, but at least we get to watch them in a best-of-seven series.
Same with Washington-Pittsburgh. They weren’t first and second in their conference, but they were 1-2 in their division and almost pre-ordained to meet somewhere along the line. It’s great they’re butting helmets again for the third straight season as the Penguins chase their third straight Stanley Cup.
