Parts of Saskatchewan may see the first significant snowfall of the new year this week.
Environment Canada issued snowfall warnings for the central belt of Saskatchewan with some cities forecasted to see up to 15 centimetres of snow before Thursday’s morning commute.
“It’s starting over the western part of Saskatchewan today, but the most (snow) we’ll see tonight is about 10 to 15 cm as the weather system crosses into Manitoba tonight and into tomorrow,” said meteorologist Sandy Massey, adding the snow will start to fall in Meadow Lake before it moves through Prince Albert.
“All the areas with a warning will get at least 10 cm and it looks like the eastern parts of Saskatchewan can get maybe 10 to 20 cm around the Kamsack and Canora regions.”
While Saskatoon sits on the southern edge of the snowfall warning, Massey said the Bridge City can expect around five centimetres on Wednesday with a little more falling overnight which could cause some headaches for morning commuters.
“Anyone that has to travel (Wednesday night) just be aware that there will be reduced visibility and changing road conditions as the weather develops,” Massey said.
