Dry conditions paired with a stiff breeze proved to be a bad combination Friday afternoon as a large grass fire burnt land on the north end of Buffalo Pound Lake.
Carrie Mullen, a resident who helped first responders battle the blaze, said the fire crept up as close as 15 to 20 feet from some homes in the area.
“It would be basically at their backyard property line,” Mullen explained. “It’s funny how it stopped because there is a pasture that runs behind with a fence and they literally stopped it at the fence line.”
There is no word yet on how the fire started.
Volunteers and first responders were still out watching for hot spots as of 4 p.m.
