Neighbours describe it as a quiet neighbourhood, but Glen Elm Trailer Court was disturbed by the sound of gunfire early Sunday morning.
One woman, who asked not to be named, told 980 CJME she was eating breakfast around 6:45 a.m. when she heard car doors slamming outside. A short while later, she heard a loud bang and a man was laying in the middle of the road, screaming for someone to call police.
She said the two vehicles sped off and the man had a gunshot wound on his leg. Police said the injuries were not serious.
Police said the trailer where it had taken place had been broken into, and the place was torn apart.
The owner, who had been renting out the trailer, said many of the drawers were thrown open and rummaged through with a large collection of rings being taken.
Don Balfour lives in the area and said something happening like this is very rare for the neighbourhood.
“Everybody here pretty much watches out for one and other, so it makes it a really safe place generally, this was a, I’m positive, just a onetime event.”
Denise Cox was at home during the shooting, but thought the noise she had heard was people throwing pebbles at her trailer.
She has lived in the area for about a year and said the only time she’s heard sirens was when an ambulance came in to help someone who was having a heart attack.
“Nothing goes on here, it’s nice and quiet, it’s a nice place to be.”
Police said an investigation into the incident is underway.
