A producer behind Little Mosque on the Prairie is turning her attention to the world of women’s fashion.
Looking to fill a gap in women’s formal wear, Zarqa Nawaz and Rubie Surtie mended their names together to create Zarquby, a line of modest but elegant women’s clothes.
When we were making Little Mosque on the Prairie, we realized there was this whole in the marketplace, people who wanted elegant clothes, women looking for more modest clothes, and we realized there’s not a lot out there,” Nawaz told Gormley on Thursday.
“We learned that so many women, not just Muslim women, want the option to be covered up a bit more … a lot of our clients are non-Muslim women who want clothes that doesn’t show as much skin.”
But the two entrepreneurs are adamant that you can dress modestly and still be sexy.
“Just because you want to dress a little more modestly doesn’t mean you have to put on a moo-moo or trash bag. All high-end designers are cashing in on this fashion,” Nawaz said.
In business for about six months, customers have bought up half of their inventory already. The clothing is only available online.
