The Riders Plaza class of 2018 is very deserving.
Jim Hopson is a no-brainer. The former CEO and President built the Riders from the loveable losers to a team others in the CFL are chasing in terms of financial success.
John Terry was the Riders best offensive lineman for most of his time with the team from 1995 to 2001. And while the team was no good, he was, finishing as a CFL all-star twice and western all-star three times. He was respected as one of the top tackles in the league.
But when the new class is announced it always brings forward the debate on who should go in next. Roy Shivers name is always brought forward. No one on the Green Zone will debate his inclusion. He grew the Riders to respectable and competitive.
What about Danny Barrett? He had the second most wins as a coach in Riders history, though most losses as well. Eventually, the olive branch has to be extended to a coach that took the Riders to three west finals in four years. Only one other coach has done that in the modern day history of the team; Eagle Keys.
We’ll wait to see if we hear either name next year.
