It would be so much fun being in Smashville right now.
A couple of friends recently visited the Tennessee city for sporting events. They came back raving about the hospitality, the cooking and the proximity of the arena to the city’s nightlife.
Oh, it also might be fun to watch the Winnipeg Jets play the Nashville Predators. Stanley Cup playoffs. Game 7. Losers go home and bemoan what could have happened. NHL fans had to wait an extra night for this finale because Justin Timberlake played a sold-out concert last night in Nashville.
The teams have taken turns winning games. One week ago we drove to Winnipeg, partied downtown with the locals and believed the Jets would win a high-flying contest.
Nashville nearly shut them out. Shut down the boisterous Winnipeg Whiteout, too.
There was a huge goal light at Winnipeg’s street party; it flashes when the Jets score. In Game 6, it wasn’t turned on once. Tonight, five times. Nashville will reply three times and the Jets will prepare for the Vegas Golden Knights.
