Royal watchers host hospital party ahead of royal wedding

Dust off the fascinator and pull out the china tea set, the Royal wedding is just a day away.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are set to marry at St. George’s Chapel on Saturday, and already many people far and wide have been getting into the spirit.

The nurses at the day surgery unit at the Pasqua Hospital in Regina held a tea party for staff and patients this week to get people in the spirit.

“We got the patients involved, people were wearing their pearls, we had fascinators on and the patients were having a hoot with it,” said Pat Henneberg, a nurse who works on the unit.

That sense of fun was something they were hoping to replicate having hosted such an event before.

Last time was during the night shift as they watched the celebrations for Prince William’s wedding back in 2011.

For the patients who were treated to the fun at this year’s event, it wasn’t typical hospital food many are accustomed to.

“Scones, strawberries, whipped cream, cucumber sandwiches, tea cookies and tea,” Henneberg laughed. “And we had bone china cups and a sliver tea service to serve it all with.”

Of course, like most weddings, the conversation of the day was all about what the bride’s dress will look like.

“I think she’s going to stay fairly modern classical, I don’t think she will do anything as traditional what Kate did, she’ll put her own spin on it,” Henneberg believed. “I think Diana would have loved both the girls her sons picked as wives.”
