More adult players are now investing in the protective equipment.
A few representatives of the Regina Symphony Orchestra (RSO) are getting a once in a lifetime chance to mingle with royalty at a very private party.
Five representatives are flying to London for Prince Charles’ 70th birthday celebration at Buckingham Palace on Tuesday.
Tanya Derksen, executive director of the RSO, said they received the invites due to the Prince of Wales becoming the royal patron of the group 10 years ago. The RSO is the only orchestra in Canada to have the honour.
“It gives us something unique to celebrate.”
Getting a chance to go to Buckingham Palace and take part in a garden party is something Derksen never believed she would get to experience in her lifetime.
“It’s quite an honour to be thinking about the fact that you get to go into this garden because it’s a special place, you have to be personally invited to attend, it’s not something that an average tourist can do when they are in London,” she said.
Derksen said they received a lot of formal information about the event, including security clearance.
There is expected to be a couple thousand people from across the globe at the party.
“The Prince of Wales will walk around the party and shake hands with every single person that’s there so we will actually get some face time with him as well.”
The party will also be the first official outing for the newly married Duke and Duchess of Sussex — Harry and Meghan — after getting hitched over the weekend.
“I think it’s going to be quite amazing, I’m anticipating showing up in London and there will be a very uplifting, positive mood in the city,” Derksen said.
The RSO arrived over the weekend in order to get settled in before the party.
