Officers seized a lot more undeclared firearms at border crossings in southern Saskatchewan throughout 2015 compared to the year before.
The Canadian Border Services Agency called 2015 a “banner enforcement year”. Officers seized 43 undeclared firearms – an increase of 30 per cent from the year before.
A news release details that North Portal officers used X-ray technology on a moving trailer heading to Alaska on Aug. 22. Doing so, they found eight undeclared firearms including a fully-automatic AR-15.
There was also an increase in suspected child pornography seizures, with five recorded in 2015, up from one in 2014.
There were 504 travellers denied entry to Canada at North Portal, Estevan Highway and nearby remote border crossings.
