Freezing rain hampered conditions on some highways in southern Saskatchewan Wednesday morning as Pacific air brought mild temperatures and precipitation to the province.
Travel was not recommended early Wednesday morning on a number of highways in the Saskatoon, Prince Albert and Battlefords areas. Check the Highway Hotline for the latest conditions and alerts.
CJME weather specialist John Wilson explained that freezing rain is typically what results when Pacific air pushes against cold air, as was the case Tuesday to Wednesday in southern Saskatchewan. While the conditions made highway travel treacherous in some areas, it also brought back the mild temperatures that have been common this winter.
“It’s pretty fantastic and it’s going to be more fantastic as that Pacific air makes a more-successful push in here.”
That push will keep temperatures above 0 C until about Sunday. That’s when Wilson forecasts that temperatures will dip back below normal. However, mild temperatures should return in the second week of February.
