A Regina man is facing charges for assaulting a police officer with what turned out to be an airsoft pellet gun.
Officers were investigating an abandoned stolen vehicle just before midnight on Monday when they were approached by a suspect carrying something in his hand.
Police describe the man as confrontational, saying he began to verbally challenge the officers before suddenly pulling a gun on them.
The firearm turned out to be an airsoft gun that looked like a real gun. After a brief struggle, police were able to safely disarm and arrest the suspect who turned out to have five warrants out for his arrest.
The 27-year-old was charged with assaulting police officers with a firearm, breach of probation and breach of a firearms prohibition order.
