Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr is the most admirable man in the NBA right now.
So I want to give him full credit when his team beats the Cleveland Cavaliers for another league championship. But I can’t.
With the possible exception of San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich and Cavaliers superstar LeBron James, nobody in the NBA encapsulates better what’s going on in the United States. And Kerr’s profound statements all speak rightfully against the divisiveness being perpetrated by President Donald Trump.
Yet almost anybody could coach these Warriors to an NBA championship. The Warriors were already the league’s best team when Kevin Durant, the NBA’s second-best player, joined them as a free agent in 2016.
Durant teamed up with stars like Steph Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green make the Warriors an unbeatable dream team.
The only thing worse for the NBA’s competitive balance will be when LeBron James, the league’s best player, becomes a free agent . . . and joins the Warriors next year.
