Are the Saskatchewan Roughriders what we think they are, or should there be concern?
After the preseason, the expectations have dropped around parts of Rider Nation after seeing the team outscored 74-24 in two games and having Zach Collaros look like the guy who went 0-12 in his last dozen starts in Hamilton and not the quarterback the Riders were hoping for.
‘Rusty’ is how Coach Chris Jones described his play. Collaros didn’t get much help. There was terrible offensive line play and then some drops by the receivers.
It left Jones steaming mad and messages were sent this weekend with the cuts of veterans Rob Bagg, Chad Owens, Bakari Grant and Travis Bond. More is expected from Jones this season and the fans.
Status quo won’t work and if you’re not up to snuff, it doesn’t matter who you are and what your resume says, you’ll be out the door behind them.
We’ll see how the team responds. It needs to be better than what it was in the preseason or more big names could be replaced.
As for optimism or pessimism for the 2018 season, the preseason has left us all being cautious about being too bullish on this year’s version of the Roughriders.
