The $1.33M rent reduction comes from what the club owed during seasons impacted by the pandemic.
On Monday, the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League announced the dispersal draft to help the Humboldt Broncos look forward to the 2018 season.
Ten young men were told that they are going from Nipawin or Kindersley or Battleford to the Humboldt Broncos. And yes, it may be tough to move from billet homes and head to a new community. But aside from the realities of a move, I couldn’t imagine how much pride they’d have to put on the jersey worn by 10 of their peers that lost their lives two months ago.
The 2018-19 season is going to be an emotional one to start from camps to come together, to the possibility of a player or two who survived getting back on the ice.
Getting back on the ice is just what Humboldt needs as the SJHL did in the days following the crash to see Nipawin and Estevan battle for a championship.
The national attention will converge again when the puck drops in the fall and the players who will suit up in Humboldt will carry a legacy, none of us can comprehend.
These young men who are changing teams and communities will get to be a part of something special and powerful.
But it won’t be easy. They should know we’re all cheering for them.
