The RCMP confirms it is investigating an allegation of assault after a video showing a handful of kids hitting and kicking another child was posted on Facebook.
On June 11, the White Butte detachment began looking into the incident at an outdoor park in White City.
The footage shows a young boy being hit and kicked numerous times by a specific group while others shout and yell.
The video has been shared several times on social media.
“We understand the concerns we have heard raised by our community members. We are actively investigating this matter and working with our schools. It is important to note that because the youth involved in the incident are identifiable and under the age of 18, we are limited in what information we can discuss publically, including the outcome of the investigation,” said Staff Sargeant Jason Sauve, White Butte RCMP Detachment Commander.
In addition to investigating the alleged assault, RCMP officers have been working closely with local schools and giving school talks relating to how to avoid physical confrontations and internet safety.
