Man charged in Saskatoon-area murder accused of putting victim in fridge

An Ontario man charged in connection to a murder near Saskatoon is now accused of putting the male victim’s body in a refrigerator and later burning his remains.
 
John Glen MacAulay, 46, appeared in Saskatoon Provincial Court on Wednesday to hear his new charge of offering an indignity by interfering with human remains.
 
He was already charged with the second-degree murder of Norman Playter. The victim had been reported missing to Calgary police, but an RCMP investigation discovered he was visiting Saskatoon in the days leading up to his death in May 2014.
 
Charges against MacAulay, who was living in Saskatoon at the time, were only laid last month. RCMP would not confirm if Playter’s body had been found, only that they believed he was killed just outside Saskatoon.

Police said the men knew each other because they were both members of the Outlaws Motorcycle Club, which had expanded into Saskatoon around the time of Playter’s death.

MacAulay is expected back in court for a preliminary hearing in June.
