Freezing rain overnight coated many highways in west-central Saskatchewan in ice.
RCMP in Maidstone and Prince Albert issued a warning to drivers late Thursday to stay off highways in the area. The warnings were extended early Friday morning by the Highway Hotline which recommended against travel on Highway 16 from Lloydminster to Maymont.
RCMP also say rain and ice created hazardous conditions around Wapella where a semi truck blocked eastbound lanes of Highway 1 early Friday morning. The lanes were blocked from about 1:30 a.m. to 4 a.m. At the time, Moosomin RCMP advised drivers that ice and fog were creating treacherous conditions on highways in the area.
