Six people are facing charges and police have obtained arrests warrants for two others, including the Best Buds Society owner, after six pot dispensaries in Regina were raided back in March.
Back in January, Regina Police Chief Evan Bray warned dispensaries to expect enforcement of the law that prohibits the sale of marijuana in a storefront even with a prescription. Officers followed up with letters to stores educating them on the laws and the dangers of unregulated substances, combining substances and selling to minors.
In March, some dispensaries chose to stop operating until the drug was legalized and the provincial licencing process ran its course.
Police identified six businesses which allegedly continued illegal operations. On March 28, Regina police searched the stores.
The stores raided were Best Buds Society, Greentree Regina, CannaGreen Dispensary Society, Green Street Clinic, Green Nation Dispensary and Smoke Inc.
Arrests and charges, including drug trafficking, were made earlier this month but police have chosen to release the information to the public on Wednesday.
Earlier in the day, Ottawa announced pot would be legalized on Oct. 17, 2018.
Police are still trying to locate 49-year-old Patrick Lee Warnecke and 31-year-old Megan Nicole Potter.
