Highway 7 west of Saskatoon is back open after a train ripped a semi trailer in half at the rail crossing near 11th Street West Tuesday afternoon.
The collision happened just after 3 p.m. and shut down the highway between 11th Street and 22nd Street until 11:30 p.m.
The driver’s cab was clear of the tracks but the trailer collided with the train, splitting the truck into several pieces on either side of the tracks. No one was hurt but Canadian Pacific (CP) said one axle of the lead locomotive derailed. The train was carrying potash.
The investigation has been turned over to CP who will determine who is at fault.
