A GoFundMe page was set up Monday to honour the Rosetown family of five killed in Friday’s crash near Elrose.
Daniel Evans, who setup the fundraiser, said the outpouring of support has come from “all over,” and people continue to ask what they can do to help.
“It’s still so hard to even think it’s real at this point. It’s a devastating, tragic loss of a young family,” Evans told Saskatchewan Afternoon host, David Kirton, Tuesday.
According to the fundraising page, the money will go towards building a new playground in the family’s memory.
Evans said he doesn’t want credit for creating the page, adding it was relatives of the Gasper family who came up with the idea of building a playground.
“Those little kids were so full of energy, always on the go, and they loved going to the park,” he said, adding with a laugh that they “tired you out just watching them.”
The funding goal was bumped up to $75,000 just a day after surpassing the initial goal of raising $50,000.
As for whether the GoFundMe donation would go towards a new park, or upgrading an existing one, Evans noted there are some spaces in Rosetown that could use some TLC.
“The more funds we raise, the bigger and better playground we can build,” he said. “The support we’ve received already is fantastic, and we thank everybody.”
Evans added planning on the playground is still underway and there’s no deadline yet on the GoFundMe.
Six people died in the Highway 4 collision — including former Humboldt Bronco Troy Gasper, his wife, Carissa, and their three young kids: Kael, 6, Shea, 4, and Maks, 2.
The driver of the other SUV involved in the head-on crash, a 71-year-old woman from the Swift Current area, was also pronounced dead at the scene.
The cause of the collision is still under investigation.
A public memorial will be held for the Gasper family at the local arena Friday.
