Environment Canada has issued heat warnings for several areas in southern Saskatchewan.
As of 3:30 p.m. Sunday afternoon, heat warnings covered all regions of southern Saskatchewan near the U.S. border — including Estevan, Carlyle and Val Marie. Areas as east as Regina and Fort Qu’Appelle to places as west as Swift Current and Leader were also under heat warnings.
Environment Canada is urging people to drink plenty of water and limit outdoor activities to the coolest times of the day or to seek out shade or cool water, or alternatively find a public building with air conditioning to keep cool.
People should watch out for health impacts from the heat like swelling, rash, cramps, fainting, heat exhaustion, heat stroke and the worsening of some health conditions.
Young children, the elderly, pregnant women and people with chronic illnesses are at greater risk from the heat.
Heat warnings are issued when the temperature’s expected to reach 32 C or higher for two days in a row with overnight lows at 16 C or milder.
