Wally Buono’s comments on the Green Zone is exactly why we talk quarterbacks so much in Saskatchewan.
The most winningest coach in football says it is amazing how much a quarterback means in this league.
While Chris Jones tried to sell it the other night that a quarterback rotation can work or that the Baltimore Ravens won the Super Bowl with Trent Dilfer, it just doesn’t work in this league.
The B.C. Lions boss quite plainly said a great quarterback can make a mediocre team good and a bad quarterback can make a good team mediocre.
And this Roughriders defence looks good. The talent on offence is there but do they have that quarterback to get them where they need to be.
First, Chris Jones has to pick one and go with them until Zach Collaros comes back and then it’ll be wait and see if Collaros is indeed the quarterback he needs to be to beat out the great ones around the league.
Complain about the offensive line or the coordinator all you want, and it’s fair criticism, but listening to Wally Buono generalize about quarterbacks makes me reconsider how far this team can go, and Buono knows his team may not have the right guys either.
