Scary moments at the Peepeekisis Medical Centre have led to a man being arrested after he had a gun near a hospital.
The File Hills First Nations police unit were dispatched to the centre around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday after a number of panicked phone calls were placed to the provincial 911 centre.
As police approached the building, the suspect came out of the front door carrying a rifle and walked towards a truck. Police confronted the man at gunpoint ordering him to drop the gun while trying to calm the man who was described as being agitated and angry.
Pepper spray was eventually deployed and the man was arrested.
Further investigation confirmed no one had been shot but one woman sustained injuries and was treated at the Fort Qu’Appelle All Nations Healing Hospital.
Two officers also sustained minor injuries during the incident.
Counselling has been supplied for staff and others who were at the hospital at that time.
A 38-year-old man is facing many charges including assault with a weapon and uttering threats. He will appear in provincial court on Friday.
