The pool at Buffalo Pound Provincial Park has sprung a leak and is closed for the rest of the summer, possibly for good.
Robin Campese, manager of visitor experience for the Ministry of Parks, Culture, Sport and Recreation, said Friday the leak became a significant problem this week.
She explained the leak is under the cement basin of the pool, making it nearly impossible to access to make a repair.
Even if it’s possible to repair, there is doubt it would hold permanently because the pool and infrastructure is 47 years old.
“It’s unfortunate for visitors and we’re certainly disappointed as well. We were hoping the pool would be open for this season,” Campese said.
In an interview with 980 CJME, Campese said the pool would quite likely be closed permanently, but the ministry would be considering potential budgetary options to replace the facility.
She went on to note the many other recreation options available at the provincial park, such as the lake itself, mini golf, along with hiking and bike trails.
In a media release, SaskParks apologized for the inconvenience to people who consider the pool to be a key attraction when they make their summer plans to visit the lake.
SaskParks is also calling customers with camping reservations to let them know of the pool closure.
