Confidence is dropping in Saskatchewan around their football team.
Before the season 65 per cent of fans voted on a Green Zone poll that the team would have 11 or more victories. Some were so emboldened about the off-season that they said the team could win 15.
Now, you’d be lucky to find many who predict a winning season and 10 games.
And don’t blame the fans for scurrying to the edge of the bandwagon so early in the season. The team, especially the offence, has been less than inspiring.
Four offensive touchdowns in the first four games has only been the low end for the Roughriders to start the season four other times. Three of those were in the early 60s. The other was 1995.
This is a historic low for an offence who will take on arguably the top three quarterbacks in the league over the next four weeks; Jeremiah Masoli, Bo Levi Mitchell twice and Mike Reilly.
If the defence can hold them to 20 points that would be great but the problem is the offence can’t score more than that.
An inspiring effort against Hamilton could see fans starting to settle down but truthfully, they’re staring a 2-6 start to the season in the face if things don’t change fast. And then, if that happens, real change likely needs to happen.
