I’ve played 20 of Canada’s top 100 golf courses on Scoregolf’s annual list.
That’s pretty good for a guy from Saskatchewan because our province unfairly has only one course on the list: Riverside Country Club in Saskatoon. Of the 20 courses I know personally, my favourite is Stewart Valley in Canmore, Alberta. It’s Number 29 on Scoregolf’s list.
At my old job, I used to travel across Canada, often with my golf clubs, before airlines started charging $25 per extra bag. Because I was a sports writer who golfed, Scoregolf asked me if I wanted to serve on the committee to help choose Canada’s top 100 courses. As tempting as that sounded, I demurred. It’s probably for the best.
I like Saskatchewan’s golf courses, so my recommendations to Scoregolf would have included Kenosee, White Bear, Moon Lake, Long Creek, Evergreen, Elk Ridge, Dakota Dunes, Waskesiu, Greenwater, North Battleford, Katepwa, Willow Bunch and so many courses I haven’t played yet. Saskatchewan has great courses and, unlike Ontario and B.C., they’re affordable. But I’m biased.
