The music of Michael Jackson and Prince will fill the air once again thanks to the Regina Symphony Orchestra (RSO).
The orchestra will be taking the stage Saturday at the Queen City Ex, bringing their own unique twist to the sounds of the two pop music icons.
The orchestra’s music director, Gordon Gerrard, said the Queen City Ex approached them and asked the RSO to play at the fair.
“We’re always looking for unique opportunities and different places, venues in the city for us to perform so we thought it was a great fit,” Gerrard told the 980 CJME Greg Morgan Morning Show.
He said they looked into what would be a good fit for the Ex, which is when they decided on Michael Jackson and Prince hits.
The RSO has teamed up with Jeans N’ Classics, an Ontario-based group of rock musicians to bring the music to life.
The RSO previously worked with the group on shows featuring the music of ABBA, Billy Joel and Queen.
“Their band will come and be on-stage with the RSO and it’s a lot of fun for me and for the rest of the musicians to step outside of the norm and to get people excited.”
Gerrard said it’s a lot of fun to be able to travel down memory lane with the music and play it in a new way.
The show gets underway on Saturday at 8 p.m. in Confederation Park.
